True Marriage is more than joining the bonds of marriage of two persons. In its right relation, it’s the uniting of two souls already attuned to each other. When such a true bond already exists between man and woman, it is fitting than an outer acknowledgement be made. This acknowledgement is the prime object of this gathering and this ceremony. We are here to bear witness to the entry into the closer relationship of husband and wife of these beloved friends who are already in one spirit.
You are now taking into your care and keeping the happiness of the one person in the world whom you love the best. You are adding to your life not only the affection of each other, but also the companionship and blessing of a deep trust as well. You are agreeing to share strength, responsibilities and to share love.
At the end of the ceremony, legally you will be husband and wife, but you still must decide each and every day that stretches before you, that you want to be married. Make such as decision and keep on making, for the most important thing in life is to love and be loved.
Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet and understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving.
It is loyalty through good and bad
It settles for less than perfection, and makes allowances for human weakness
Love is content with the present. It hopes for the future and it doesn’t brood over the past
It’s the day-in and day-out chronicle of irritations, problems compromises, small disappointments, big victories, and working toward common goals.
If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you lack.
If you don’t have it, no matter what else there is, it is not enough, so search for it, ask God for it and share it!
The Sand Ceremony
___________and ___________, you come here today from two different families. From these two families you have gained a foundtaion of love and courage, upon which to build your own family.
At this time, I would invite the parents of __________ and _________, to come forward and symbolize that foundation, in the pouring of a neutral colored sand into the base of this container.
________ and ___________, these two colored viles of sand represent your lives up to this moment; individual and unique – and that uniqueness, that individuality will always be there.
Therefore, when you combine your sands of life together, leave some sand in your own containers – to represent your family ties and relationships that shall exist even in this new relationship. But combine the rest of the sand together, in the same way that you are about to wrap your lives around each other completely, in this celebration of marriage.
